Here's my first attempt at using circular needles.
I'm taking a class to learn to knit a wallaby sweater. I figured it was time to learn how to knit something other than a square and I've been avoiding circular needles for a while. I've also been avoiding learning how to increase and decrease. So, this class forces me to take my knitting to the next level. So, when I'm done knitting this sweater it will be for Sammy. It has a hood and front pocket. So, apparently my knitting style is very loose. Mary, can you help me? I tend to pull the needles far apart when I purl.

Yeah -- aren't circulars (or "circs" as we addicts call them!) fun. It's so nice to see the right side of the knitting the whole time!
As far as loose knitting -- that's not necessarily a bad thing. If you're trying to knit to a stated gauge, just go down a needle size or two to get the right number of sts to inch.
For purling, just check when you pull the yarn to the front, and then after you purl and bring the yarn to the front, that you consciously tighten just a bit ... your stitches should always slide easily but the knitting shouldn't be floppy.
Also, don't forget that with kids -- they grow -- so if your finished sweater is a little big, it's really not gone to waste as they'll grow into it! Or you can pass it down to the next in line --why do you think I have so many kids?
