In which Luke tries to live like Sam Gribley
Here's the shelter Luke's been building in the yard with Uncle Markie and his cousins. He just needs the Deer Skin door and he can live like Sam Gribley. Now we'll see if he'll eat the acorn pancakes!

A picture thought I'm sharing....

I forgot to add a picture thought with my Simple Woman's Daybook entry. So, I'm adding this picture today. I bought this little table and chairs at Lowe's over Memorial Day weekend. I almost passed it up, but I just loved that bright green color. I felt kind of bad for buying it because I didn't think it was absolutely essential and I guess it's not, but now the boys love bringing their snacks out onto the deck. I love looking out the window to look at the cute little table and it will really enhance our outdoor living the summer. In that sense, it was an essential purchase after all!

Fairy Houses aren't just for girls

We have the perfect back yard in which to build fairy houses. I wasn't sure Luke would go for this because it can be considered "girl-y", but we watched this DVD and it sparked his imagination. I really want him to enjoy the great outdoors and to see the great things God has provided for him. So far, this week, he has built three fairy houses. Yesterday, I helped Luke gather twigs and pinecones for one. The one he built today has a rock table and two small sticks that are supposed to be a fork and knife. Too bad that the aspens have lost most of their leaves because they would look lovely on the houses, but I guess we can wait until Spring.

I'm grateful for this

Today, Luke and I cleaned out our garden barrels. We started out with such high hopes in May as we planted several varieties of sunflowers, pumpkins, daisies and marigolds. I was really disappointed that not one of our sunflowers bloomed until Paul discovered this tiny flower in one of the barrels. We had planted kid-sized sunflowers in this barrel and I found that I was completely grateful for this tiny humble bloom. The marigolds got close to blooming, but never quite opened and then we got our first snow of the season yesterday. It was just the tiniest of snows, but it was cold enough for the marigolds to completely shrivel. I should have brought them inside, but I knew that they were way past the blooming stage. We will definitely have to learn how to grow things at our elevation of 8600 feet. I have hope for next season though.
